Recent Project – Unknown subject

I don’t as yet know the name of this gentleman.  He is the most recent winner of the Backcountry Messenger portrait of the month promotion.  Not knowing his identity did not, however, make him any less interesting to paint. In fact, this portrait represents more closely the type of portraiture I am most interested in than anything else I’ve done in the recent past. It is an accurate and discipline portrait, but at the same time, there is a looseness about it that for some reason, I am not always able to achieve.  Anyway, I like it, even if no one else does.  We’ll see.  One thing is certain: that is some bad hat he’s got on!  You gotta love it.

Great work, I am friends with the man in the painting and he’s a modern day mountain man with a big heart, a great guy and your painting captures this!
